to Meteorological Factors in an Inland River Basin in Low Coteau Area

Abstract:The process of soil water-heat change in the small basin of inland rivers in low coteau areas is of great
significance to the whole inland river area. In this study,the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of soil
water-heat and the response relationship to meteorological factors in low coteau areas of inland rivers are ana‐
lyzed by using the field monitored meteorological data and soil water content and heat data. The conclusions are
as follows:(1)The soil water content in mountainous areas varies at different depths,in the piedmont zone,
there is only change in the surface or subsurface of the soil. The annual variation of soil moisture in shrub grass‐
land of coteau areas,forest land,and desert grassland is greater than that on other underlying surfaces. The annu‐
al and spatial variation trends of soil temperature and soil moisture are consistent,and the higher the altitude,the
lower the soil temperature.(2)Under different altitudes and underlying surface conditions in the low coteau area
of inland rivers,there are great differences in the response of soil moisture to precipitation. Precipitation in moun‐
tainous areas can explain at least 88% of the change in soil water content. When the single precipitation in pied‐
mont and downstream oasis is less than 4 mm,it can only affect the soil layer of 0~20 cm on the surface. When
the single precipitation is less than 2 mm,it cannot affect the soil moisture content.(3)The soil temperature at
the depth of 0~20 cm is sensitive to the change of air temperature,and in the low coteau area,the response of
soil temperature to air temperature has a lag of 4. 5 hours.(4)The soil moisture in the lower reaches of the Xitu‐
gou basin is replenished by the leakage of the intermittent flood,which makes the soil moisture higher in sum‐
mer,which is consistent with the changing trend of temperature.
